Donna Hais has been elected to Chair the Board of Directors for the Port of Nanaimo. Hais, CEO and General Manager of R.W. (Bob) Wall Contracting Ltd., was chosen by the Directors to lead the Board of Directors for a two-year term. Donna is also a former Chair of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.
“I am deeply honoured to have been given this opportunity to serve the Port of Nanaimo and the community in this position,” says Donna Hais. “We are on the right course and I look forward to leading our team as we continue into the future.”
Captain Fred Denning was elected Vice-Chair of the Board replacing former Vice-Chair Hais. Captain Denning worked for 46 years in the West Coast Marine industry, including senior officer, Master, Instructor, Pilot and Pilot Executive. He served for 8 years as a Director of the BC Coast Pilots and for 6 years as Pacific Vice-President of the Canadian Marine Pilots Association.
The province of BC has also appointed Douglas S. White as its representative on the Board, replacing Jeet Manhas, whose term ended May 31 after nine years serving the community on the Board. Doug is the former Chief of the Snuneymuxw First Nation and is currently the Director of the Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation at Vancouver Island University. Mr. White practices as a lawyer and negotiator across the country for First Nations governments, is Secretary-Treasurer of Snuneymuxw’s Petroglyph Development Corporation and Chair of the BC First Nations Justice Council.
