Session #1 - Unconscious Bias Session
What is unconscious bias? And how does it affect our everyday interactions in the workplace? This session aims to set the stage for the theme of Equality and Inclusion in the Maritime Profession and hopes to make panel participants and the audience mindful as we work through the day’s agenda.
Session #2: Junior Officer Panel (education themed)
We are seeking panel participants to share their educational journey into the maritime sector. Panel participants should represent the various marine educational institutions throughout Canada, as well as identify with the employment equity groups (women, people with disabilities, Aboriginal peoples, and visible minorities). Panelists will discuss barriers they experienced as they were introduced to the maritime field and how they overcame these obstacles on their educational path to success in the maritime profession.
Session #3: Senior Officer Panel (equity success stories)
Panel participants should identify with one of the four equity seeking groups (women, people with disabilities, Aboriginal peoples, and visible minorities) and we encourage them to discuss their accomplishments in the maritime field and identify the elements and resources to their success.
Session #4: The Maritime Profession and Government Organizations (equality and inclusion success stories)
Panel participants will represent government organizations (e.g., CCG, TC, CHS, RCN, RCMP, etc.) and discuss the various programs, protocols and regulations their organizations have in place to promote Equality and Inclusion in the Maritime
Profession.
Session #5: Industry Spotlight/Showcase (equality and inclusion insight, forward thinking)
This session aims to promote positive and innovative practices by one or more companies in the maritime sector and how forward thinking is contributing to their company’s success.
