On June 25th, the International Day of the Seafarer, the ISSC held it’s third annual Peak Challenge on the Grouse Grind®, a 2.9 kilometre challenging climb up to the top of Grouse Mountain. This year’s participation far exceeded the first two years with 34 teams of three registered to join in the challenge and evening celebration. It is expected that over $10,000 was raised through team registrations and sponsorships - these proceeds will be added to our grant program that support seafarer centres across Canada (this year ISSC distributed $51,000).
Taking the top prizes at this event were Mark Calabrese from Island Tug and Barge with the fastest time up at 38 minutes 57 seconds and fastest team went once again to Teekay Shipping. TK Champions finished with a combined time of 2 hours 9 minutes - congratulations to team members Adam Rawski, Chris Cooper, and Kate Ferguson.
Many thanks to the shipping community for their show of support. This year’s Day of the Seafarer theme was to gain support for gender equality in seafaring, and many clearly indicated #IamOnBoard.
Congratulations to all teams!
